Drug Addiction Intervention & 12-step Programs
Drug addiction interventions occur
when a person has a problem with drugs but is unable
to see that his/her use is causing consequences. A drug
intervention is when a family member or friend gets
help for a substance abuser through an alcohol
intervention specialist or intervention services.
Drug interventions are very successful when done correctly
and compassionately and can lead to a person’s
involvement in a treatment program or 12-step program.
Because drug addiction is such a baffling disease, it
is highly recommended that people who suffer from it
get professional help. Denial is a key barrier in the
drug addict getting help for the substance
abuse problem. The first step in a drug intervention
is a person calling out for help either by phone or
through email. When a person makes the first phone call,
he/she is connected with an intervention intake specialist
that explains the process in detail. After this initial
contact the friend or family member will be put in touch
with an intervention specialist that will help plan
and perform the actual intervention.
Drug Alcohol Interventions
Drug Alcohol Interventions are successful
because the specialist along with family members and
friends work together to make a team that can confront
the behaviors of the addict. After the second phone
call the specialist arranges a time to plan and perform
the intervention. Usually the specialist will meet with
the members of the intervention team before the day
of the actual intervention. During this session and
during any phone calls leading up to this time, the
specialist will work with the loved ones to set boundaries
and make plans to drug intervene for what to do if the
addict agrees to get help. Drug alcohol intervention
specialists will most likely suggest that the addict
goes through a treatment or drug
treamtent program and aftercare. The specialist
will explain to the team that they need to be strong
in their boundaries and not give in to the manipulation
of the addict.
Alcoholism Intervention | Drug Intervene
People addicted to drugs or alcohol
want to do whatever it takes to stay in their addiction
even when it is hurting the people they love the most.
The alcoholism intervention is planned to take place
in an environment where the addict feels safe. While
this does not take away the pain of the confrontation,
it does help to make it easier to manage. The alcoholism
intervention is lead by the intervention
specialist but involves all of the team members.
Usually each person has something to say to the addict
about the way his/her drug use has made them feel and
what fears they have about the addict’s future.
If the intervention goes as planned, the individual
will agree to get treatment or attend a 12-step program.
The intervention specialist acts as the contact between
the family and the addict while he/she is in treatment
and can also be a part of the aftercare plan if desired.
Executive
interventions also offered to intervene on key employees
that have become addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. Crisis
interventions are also offered to drug intervene
on individuals that suffer from drug addiction and alcohol
abuse.
